The graphical elements (gfx) in Quake include the following and either are located in the gfx folder of pak0.pak or within gfx.wad in the base folder of pak0.pak:
- The console background (conback, in gfx folder)
- The character set (conchars, in gfx.wad)
- The HUD - contained in gfx.wad, a collection of numbers and little weapon icons and such
- Help files (in gfx folder)
- Menu elements, like "Loading ..." or "Main Menu" (in gfx folder)
Adquedit is virtually required to edit anything in gfx.wad
